Randal Spangler

There once was a young boy whose sense of adventure and intrigue led him on exciting explorations in a little town near Kirksville, Missouri.   From adventures in his family’s attic to discoveries in the old barn, these explorations began to shape his character and imagination.
It was the 1950s, and the innocence of youth was alive and well in this little boy as he made his way with wide eyes and an open heart.  The smell and tastes of apple pie, fresh dinner rolls, succulent meats and delicious chocolate cookies fondly embraced him during those Sunday dinners on the farm.  There was an unspoken satisfaction among his family for their hard work of growing and harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables from the orchard and garden.
That little boy still remembers those special moments in that small town.  His name is Randal Spangler, the talented artist and creator of a variety of whimsical characters such as the Draglings, Dagmar and Dewey.  His childhood memories helped shape, and give life to characters that were a primary source of inspiration for the “Land of Ohm.”
Even as he grew older, special experiences continued to shape Randal’s world and his artistic creativity flourished.   He recalls with great clarity backpacking through the rain forests of Olympic National Park while in the Navy in Bremerton, WA.  The breathtaking scenery left an impression he would not soon forget.   Soon after his discharge from the Navy, Randy settled in Kansas City, MO, where he attended the Kansas City Art Institute.
He began his professional career in 1977. Since then, he has attended over a thousand art fairs and/or Renaissance festivals in nineteen states and won over one hundred awards.  His work is licensed on numerous products including puzzles, cross-stitch designs, murals and wallpaper.  It is also featured at the Museum of Art and Whimsy in Sarasota, FL, The Epic Corp. in Madison, WI,  The Children’s Illustrated Art Museum in St. Louis, MO., and various libraries and schools. He shares his experiences and memories through his creative and fun artwork, selling tens of thousands of prints each year to collectors in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Pacific.
The Randal Spangler collection of whimsical, colorful artwork is magical indeed.  With each piece, and with each paint stroke, a story is told, a memory remembered and an adventure is yet to be encountered.
