A native of the Adirondacks, Joanne Towers spent her youth immersed in exploring the natural beauty of its mountains, forests, lakes and waterways. As a current resident of the Mohawk Valley, she has again found fertile ground for inspiration in the rolling hills, forests, fields, waterfalls, rivers and streams that are unique to the region. Working in various media, Joanne expresses her heartfelt appreciation for the awe and reverence she feels for nature, in the hopes that the viewer experiences similar joy.
In 1987, Joanne received a Fine Arts degree from Ringling School of Art & Design as well ad a BFA from Suny New Paltz. After returning to the North, she taught art classes for K-12 in upstate New York while showing her art at local venues. She later relocated to Beautfort SC, where she managed the Arts & Entertainment Department for the Marine base at Paris Island. During this time, she began exhibiting at local galleries and winning awards for her naturalistic work. While raising a family with three daughters she also received portrait commissions from South Carolina to New York. Again, relocating to upstate New York, she continued painting as she worked for a textile designer and a sign shop. After moving to the Mohawk Valley, she developed a prosperous relationship with the Zaccheo Fine Art Gallery of Manchester VT, which brought her acclaim with an international clientele.
Joanne’s hopes are that in expressing her own experiences and love for Nature, she increases the awareness, enjoyment, and preservation of the Great Outdoors which remains the enduring passion of her life.
