Madeline Wilson
A fine arts photographer living in Boulder, Colorado, I maintain a studio practice in photography and mixed media. I spend a good deal of time in the great outdoors, a source of inspiration for my work. Other inspiration comes from music, friends and travel – and artists Stephen Shore, William Eggleston, Lorna Simpson, Penny Umbrico, and the artists in my surrounding community.
I have been practicing photography since the 1970’s, moving from a black and white darkroom practice, through cibachrome and color negative, to digital imagery. I hold an MFA from New York University and BFA from Bard College. I taught photography and video full time for nearly 25 years. I have exhibited widely, mostly in the New York market, where I lived for most of my adult life.
The digital process conveys my color sense perfectly, offering the ability to fine-tune color using Lightroom and Photoshop. My conceptual process addresses questions of permanence, obfuscation, deconstruction and reconstruction, and natural reclamation. The ability to capture and hold objects of the past in the present forms the basis of my artistic pursuits.
